BRAVA DIVA! This, my friend, is one of the most brilliant, inspiring, and liberating (to both genders) pieces I've ever read. I wish someone would write something like this to the men of the world as well. I truly believe that men are the greatest enemy to real masculinity—women, the greatest enemy to true womanhood.

Kristy and I have talked about a lot of these things. She was raised in a "proper," southern family whose matriarchs still cringe every time I go into the kitchen to pour myself something to drink. Her great aunt pulls her aside and tells her I shouldn’t have to do it.

As a high school student, Kristy wore heals and panty hose to class. Now, she wears jeans and a t-shirt to work every chance she gets (ironically, she’s a teacher). And, you know what? I think that’s sexy as hell! I’m much more attracted to her when she’s at ease—when her personality is unmasked; free and in full force. In certain situations, she is more comfortable with shaved legs, makeup applied, coif well appointed, bejeweled, etc. Either way, if she is uncomfortable, so is our relationship. I wish more women understood that. (I might go as far as to say that Kristy is at her most irresistibly seductive when devoid of all pretention, whatever its form.)

I planned most of our wedding because Kristy was in nursing school until a couple of weeks before the “big day.” In the nearly 20 years of our relationship, I’ve never actually seen her “real” hair color. But, that has little to do with vanity on her part. It has much more to do with her sense of adventure and creativity. Our family photo albums are a veritable catalogue of hairstyles and colors. Not just hers, but mine as well.

I don’t think this is merely a post about gender equity/equality. It doesn’t champion social androgyny. No one is spayed or neutered. Beautiful gender distinctives are maintained… even celebrated. This is an all too rare treatment of an unnecessarily delicate issue. Brilliant! Simply brilliant. Thank you.

SI for Women was quality. I mainly taped photography/images of female athletes to my wall to inspire me to go outside! Weekly World News ... never bought an issue in my life (swear!) but I miss reading the hilarious headlines while waiting in line at the grocery store. Plus, Holly Warren had the "Bat Boy" cover tacked up in her cubicle. Always gave us a good laugh.

I think that you're missing the whole point of her column (at least, what I understood it to be) and that is that there's a lot of good food in Dallas but there's not really GREAT food in Dallas. And maybe, as you said it, you're not a foodie and you could care less about the food itself but for some (including myself) food is more important than just the looks. And, although I don't agree entirely with Leslie, I think that Dallas is still far behind other cities in the world of having AMAZING restaurants. I don't think that it is a matter of traveling or money. You said it right, it is about cultural differences and, in Dallas, unfortunately, our food culture is just developing which means that we won't have great restaurants in the near future but we will, sooner than later.

ahh marriage. It's fun, it's annoying, it's alive, it's grating, it's just life. I love every minute of it. Even the hard times because I would definitely rather do this life with him than without him.

Christy, I am at that point right now and only recently surrendered to Proverbs 3, 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."

I have no idea where I am going but I know from looking at my life that God always has a plan. Some have been very unexpected and others not so much.

It doesn't mean that we stop moving. It means that we move into the God current. His "waves" are not our "waves" unless we can get still enough, quite enough to yield, let him enter into us so that he can then gently nudge us, like a baby duck, down a beautiful stream.

Dear God, I wish you could understand how you sharing this entry has lifted me in this moment. I was very aware, before reading your entry, that there was some kind of unrest in me.

When I got to the point in your entry, "Be still and know that I am God," I stopped. I cut off the TV. Teared up a tiny bit. And just allowed those words to reverberate throughout my internal and external space.

Thank you for bringing those words to me. We know the verses but sometimes the meanings get caught and twisted up as we go about our own way of doing this thing called life.
